Long Sutton Environment Day 2024

February 2024

Long Sutton Parish Council Environment Team organised an Environment day that took place on 17th February 2024, where a Community Land Survey was conducted.

Thank you to all the residents who completed the survey at the environment day. The survey asked what residents thought Community Land should be used for if some land became available in the parish. The detailed survey results can be found by clicking the link below.

This feedback will now go to the Parish Council to decide on next steps.  If anyone is interested in helping with this project please contact Lisa our Parish Clerk at clerk@longsutton-pc.gov.uk.

Long Sutton Parish Habitat: Read the report

October 2023

Long Sutton Parish Council Environment Team invited Somerset Wildlife Trust to come and have a look at our parish and help us make a difference to our natural environment.  Together we travelled across Long Sutton, Upton, Knole and Bineham, on almost every lane, drove, and many footpaths.  We looked at fields, hedges, droves, moors, woods and areas in the centre of Long Sutton like the recreation field, school and the church

What happens next...

Based on the results of the survey and the feedback during the Spring Fair, the Parish Council are finalising their Environment Plan which will provide a roadmap for helping to make the Parish more sustainable and resilient to climate change.

We are also planning lots of actions and events covering our key three themes of Energy, Waste and Nature and will be keeping you informed about what's going on and how you can get involved.

...watch this space...!

Carbon & Energy

Goal: Reduce our dependence on high cost, high carbon fossil fuels through a combination of reducing usage and switching to renewable energy sources.

Waste & Resources

Goal: Improve our consumption of materials, particularly non-renewable ones, and ensure that we can rethink, redesign, reduce, reuse and recycle more to cut waste and save cost.

Nature

Goal: To protect and enhance the animals and plant life in our community whilst ensuring we can enjoy the outdoors, and produce food and other goods and service from nature.

Mentioned in Despatches

The survey results and Spring Fair highlighted just how passionate the parish is about our environment and that there is a real desire to help mitigate the effects of climate change.

What was also clear from the attendance of our guest organisations is that we are not alone in our concerns and that there is a huge commitment at (previously) District and County level to find solutions to the issues we face.
