Tennis Court refurbishment

Refurbishment works starting on 30th October 2023

***Update 5th March 2024***

The final marking out of the courts is due to take place towards the end of April.  The courts will be out of use for up to two weeks during this time.  The completion is very much weather dependent, and is likely to take place at short notice.

The online booking system will go live once the marking out is finalised.

***Update 22nd December 2023***

The temporary marking out of the courts was completed yesterday and the nets are back.  Final marking out should take place in the spring.

The new online booking system is amost up and running, and should be finalised in February.

***Update 18th December 2023***

The temporary marking of the courts should take place on Tuesday or Thursday this week.

The new entrance gate was installed on 4th December 2023. It is hoped, once the temporary court marking is in place, that the new booking system will be up an running.

Thank you to all court users for your patience during the refurbishment of the tennis courts.

*** Update 25th November 2023***

The laying of tarmac has been completed.  Next action is the entrance gate frame to be finished, and then the new entance gate is to be installed, provisionallly on 6th December 2023.

The temporary court marking will be considerered in a few weeks time, one the tarmac has settled.  Permanent marking will be laid in the spring.

*** Update  16th November 2023 ***

Tarmac is being laid on the court tomorrow (Friday 17th November) and probably Tuesday 21st OR Wednesday 22nd November 2023.

The weather has severly hampered the progress to be completed within the three week period.  Fingers crossed that the temporary markings will be in place and the courts can be used again.

Thank you for your patience!

The tennis court refurbishment will take place week commencing 30th October, and is likely to take two to three weeks  to complete.  The tennis courts will be closed during this time.

Contractors will have a container based in the village hall car park for the duration of the works.  There will be a skip to the left of the village hall, which will be secured with heras fencing.  The rear entrance gate to the school may be restricted during this time.  Please take care when accessing the rear school gate and also the recreation area whilst the works are ongoing.

When the tarmac is being laid towards the end of the works, the rear entrance gate, from the village hall car park to the school, will be closed completely, for a two day period.  The precise date is not yet known, but we are liaising with the school to keep them informed of when this is likely to take place.

The Parish Council apologises in advance for any inconvenience caused by these works.  If you have any questions, please do not hesistate to contact the Parish Clerk at clerk@longsutton-pc.gov.uk or via 07561 695671

Sports Pavilion and Play Area

Fundraising Events

The Village Hall & Recreation Field Trust are working in conjunction with the Cricket Club to raise funds for the extension & refurbishment of the Sports Pavilion and play area. The original anticipated budgets were an underestimate of works required meaning we must double our efforts in making these investments a success.

With this in mind, the following fundraising events have been planned and it is hoped that they will provide some fantastic community enjoyment while raising funds at the same time.

  • Saturday 27th January we will experience a giant AUCTION of PROMISES with something for everyone

  • April 2024 (date to be confirmed) we will enjoy the delights for a BEER, CIDER & GIN FESTIVAL plus entertainment.

More details will appear in the next newsletter, but if you would like to help us organise any of these events, or would like to sponsor an event please contact Rupert Cox on 07503 547074 or email rupertandangie@btinternet.com

Table Tennis Club

Calling all players, old and new

Thanks to a kind donation, the Village Hall is now the home to a second-hand table tennis table that will be put to good use on Thursday afternoons from 2pm – 4pm starting on 7th September.

Come along for some taster sessions at only £2 per session and once we have built up some momentum, another table could be acquired and a club formed.

The table can also be hired privately through bookings@longsutton.org.uk

For more information about the Thursday sessions, please contact simon_scarborough@yahoo.co.uk or call him on 07791 638087

The Village Hall Committee is delighted to be able to subsidise this new physical activity until it is established to go along with the resurfaced tennis courts, refurbished play area, extended sports pavilion and a proposed pétanque (boule) court all scheduled to be carried out in the next year.
