Langport Bridge Project
** Disruption throughout August 2025 **
The railway bridge over the A378 in Langport needs to be repaired to keep the line running between Castle Cary and Taunton running safely and reliably. Re-built in 1971, the bridge has 44 cross girders (22 on each side) which have a design defect at their ends which may result in fracturing of the steel beam. New beams need to be added between the existing ones to take the weight of trains and the entire bridge will also be grit-blasted, cleaned and re-painted. Stonework at either end of the structure will also be fixed.
To allow for these significant works to take place the A378 will be closed to traffic througout August (pedestrians will still be able to walk safely underneath).
The core work takes place from Monday 4 August to Sunday 31 August. Work will continue until Monday 22 September with further round-the-clock work on Saturday 13, Sunday 14, Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 September 2025.
Replacement bus services will also run - see timetable for further details.
