Nature Reserve

Six acres of green space in the heart of our community, being transformed by local volunteers into a better place for wildlife and people.

 

How it started

 

Long Sutton Nature Reserve grew out of the work of the Long Sutton Environment Group, established by the Parish Council to find practical ways to improve our local environment.

 

What began as an idea a few years ago has developed into a community nature reserve, with local volunteers helping to create new habitats, encourage biodiversity and make the site somewhere everyone can enjoy.

 

Making more space for nature

 

Based on feedback from residents, they wanted a space where nature could thrive, and they can spend time outside. 

 

We're gradually managing the land to create a richer mixture of habitats and give nature more space to thrive.

 

We're working to encourage:

• 🌼 Wildflowers and native plants

• 🐝 Bees, butterflies and other insects

• 🐦 Birds, amphibians and other wildlife

• 🌳 A greater variety of natural habitats

 

The reserve will continue to develop and change over time as the habitats mature and we learn what works best.

 

A place for people too

 

The reserve isn't just for wildlife — it's for the whole community.

 

Come down to:

• Take a walk and explore the paths

• Well behaved dogs on leads are welcome

• Bring the children to discover some local wildlife

• Sit on one of the picnic benches and enjoy the views

• Watch the birds, insects and changing seasons

• Or simply spend a little quiet time outdoors
