WI Centenary Year 2024
Dear Readers,

As I write, (!8Aug24), it is full steam ahead for the WI Centenary Afternoon Tea this week. We are very excited to be celebrating, and sharing this event with WI members and special guests, who will have the opportunity to view the ‘stitch in time’ display, for the first time.
Dates for your diaries:
Sat 7-Sept, 10:30-12pm: WI Church Coffee morning in aid of Children’s Hospice South West at Holy Trinity Church, Long Sutton.
We welcome your garden produce, plants, sweet & savoury baked goods, pickles and jams for the produce stall - please drop off at the church from 10am. Visitors will also have the opportunity to view the Long Sutton WI Centenary Exhibition and Stitch in Time display - which share the rich history of the village WI group, the WI founding members, what did the WI group get up to, how they survived 100 years, and pulled together to support the war effort. The Stitch in Time textile project is a stitched display of textile squares, telling the story of the WI movement across the decades from 1924 to 2024. The exhibition will be available to view during the coffee morning, and will continue through until 5pm with tea & coffee also available. Please share the coffee morning and exhibition date with friends & family in neighbouring villages as this is a not-to-be missed event.
Thurs 19-Sept, 7:30pm: Talk - “Worries & Wonders of Ageing” with Dr Lucy Pollock at Long Sutton Village Hall - FREE Community Event. Join us for an entertaining and thought-provoking evening, as consultant geriatrician Dr Lucy Pollock shares her experiences of over thirty years of working with older people, those close to them, and chats about her new book, ‘The Golden Rule’. In her own words, her talk will "make you laugh, cry a bit, and think a lot”. Lucy is supporting, and donating her speaker fee to Age UK who support and improve the lives of older people living in Somerset. Refreshments will be served ~ Donations welcome.
